Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to:

Required:

Import a pressuremeter sounding

At the creation of an Elk project, the software is located by default in the 'Manage' perspective.
Click on the 'Geo-located objects' tab and expand 'In-situ tests' category.
Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 1)

The dialog 'Elk - import pressuremeters from Excel file' shows up, click on 'Browse' button (Fig 2).

A dialog shows up.
Browse to the directory which contains the unzipped file : 'shg-import-test-menard.zip'.
Select the file 'pressio-location.xls'. (Fig 3)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

The dialog 'Elk - import pressuremeters from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 4).
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Expand all folders'. (Fig 5)

Import lithology

Mouse right-click on 'Layers'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 6)

Dialog called 'Elk - import lithology from Excel file' shows up.
Click on 'Browse' button (Fig 7).

A dialog shows up.
Select file 'lithology.xls'. (Fig 8)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

The dialog called 'Elk - import lithology from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 9).

Click on 'Ok' button.

A progress dialog shows up during import stage (Fig 10).

Import pressuremeter tests output

Mouse right-click on 'Tests'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 11)

A dialog called 'Elk - import tests from Excel file' shows up.
Click on 'Browse' button (Fig 12).

A dialog shows up.
Select file 'tests.xls'. (Fig 13)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

A dialog 'Elk - import tests from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 14).
Click on 'Ok' button.

A progress dialog shows up during import stage (Fig 15).

Display pressuremeter charts

In Elk menubar click on 'Perspectives | Switch to "Run"' (Fig 16).
By default Elk is located on 'Welcome' tab.
Mouse left-click on 'Process' tab.

Expand 'In-situ tests' category.
Mouse right-click on 'Pressio'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Show in new pressuremeter viewer' (Fig 17).

A viewer shows up in the run perspective Desktop, on the right hand (Fig 18). From left to right :

  • A lithological log,
  • Em chart,
  • Pf* chart,
  • Pl* chart.

Mouse left-click on pressuremeter viewer toolbar, on the outlined in red icon on Fig 19.
The values of pressuremeter charts are then displayed.

Mouse right-click on a chart test. (Fig 20)
A popup menu shows up.
Click on 'Test results settings'.

The dialog 'Elk - Settings - Test results' shows up (Fig 21),
Modify Em value : 140 MPa,
Modify Pl* value : 4.3 MPa,
Click on 'Ok' button.

Values are updated on the chart (Fig 22).
