Tutorial : Export and import an Elk project
Introduction
What:
This tutorial will show you how to:
- Create a project,
- export the project,
- import the project.
Level: beginner
Expected time: 15 minutes
Required:
- Elk version # 0.9.0 or higher,
Create a project
At first run, Elk is located in the 'Desktop' space
(Fig 1).
A this stage, if you have already used the software, you should be located at the last space opened.
Then :

If you are located in a workspace
Click on : 'File | Close workspace, back to desktop'.

If you are located in a project
Click on :'File | Close project, back to workspace'.
You should then be located in a workspace. Close this workspace.
Follow this tutorial with starting location in 'Desktop' space.

From Elk menu-bar, mouse left-click on 'File | New workspace'
(Fig 2).

The dialog shows up, click on 'Ok'
(Fig 3).

You are located in the newly created workspace
(Fig 4).

From Elk menu-bar, mouse left-click on 'File | New project'
(Fig 5).

The dialog shows up, mouse left-click on 'Ok'
(Fig 6).

A progress dialog shows up, during project creation wait a few moment.
Then the project is created, by default you are located in the 'manage' perspective
and on 'Welcome' tab,
click on the 'Geo-located objects' tab
(Fig7 ).

Mouse left-click on 'Earth Shapes', and expand 'Earth shapes' category.
Mouse right-click on 'Points'.
A popup-menu shows up, mouse left-click on 'New | by editing'
(Fig 8).

The dialog 'Elk - New point' shows up (Fig 9).
Input the following parameters:
- Name : leave 'point 1'
- Location (Lat-Lon in degrees) : '8' and '12'
Then click on 'Ok' button.

The point 'point 1' shows up, located on the earth
(Fig 10).

Export the project
From Elk menu-bar, mouse left-click on 'File | Close project, back
to workspace'.
(Fig 11).
Then you are located in the 'Workspace '

From Elk menu-bar, mouse left-click on 'Tools | manage projects'
(Fig 12).

The dialog 'Elk - Manage projects' shows up, mouse right-click on
'Project 1'.
A popup-menu shows up, mouse left-click on 'Export project'
(Fig 13).

The dialog 'Export project' shows up.
Input 'myFirstProject.prj'
Then mouse left-click 'Enregistrer' or save
(Fig 14).

The dialog 'Elk - information' shows up, the project is
correctly exported.
Click on 'Ok', the dialog is closing
(Fig 15 ).

Import the project
The dialog 'Elk - Manage projects' shows up again, mouse left-click on
'Delete all projects' button.
(Fig 16).
A confirmation dialog shows up, mouse left-click on 'Ok'

In the dialog 'Elk - Manage projects', Project 1 is now deleted.
Mouse left-click on 'Import project' button
(Fig 17).

The dialog 'Elk - Open' shows up select 'myFirstProject.prj'
and mouse left-click on 'Open'
(Fig 18).

The dialog 'Elk - New project' shows up
(Fig 19).
An information dialog shows up, click on 'Ok'.
Input the 'Name' : 'Project 1 imported' and
mouse left-click on 'Ok' button.
Close the dialog 'Elk - Manage projects' mouse left-click
on 'Close'.

From Elk menu-bar, mouse left-click on 'File | Open project | Open project from list'
(Fig 20).

The dialog 'Elk - Open project' shows up,
mouse left-click
on 'Project 1 imported' to make a selection from among
'Existing',
then mouse left-click on 'Ok' button
(Fig 21).

The imported project is open and is the same as the initial project, with
the 'Point 1' located
on the earth
(Fig 22).
