Introduction

Required:

Import pressuremeters

Step 1 : Import pressuremeters location

At the creation of an Elk project, the software is located by default in the 'Manage' perspective.
Click on the 'Geo-located objects' tab and expand 'In-situ tests' category.
Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 1)

The dialog 'Elk - import pressuremeters from Excel file' shows up, click on 'Browse' button (Fig 2).

A dialog shows up.
Select the file 'pressuremeters.xls'. (Fig 3)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

Choose .xls file corresponding to the pressuremeter

The dialog 'Elk - import pressuremeters from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 4).
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Expand all folders'. (Fig 5)

Step 2 : Import pressuremeters's tests

Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMT A 1 | Tests'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 6)

A dialog called 'Elk - import tests from Excel file' shows up.
Click on 'Browse' button (Fig 7).

A dialog shows up.
Select file 'PMT_A_1_tests.xls'. (Fig 8)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

A dialog 'Elk - import tests from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 9).
Click on 'Ok' button.

A progress dialog shows up during import stage (Fig 10).

Repeat step 2 for 'Menard PMT A 2' and 'Menard PMT A 3' respectively with files 'PMT_A_2_tests.xls' and 'PMT_A_3_tests.xls'.
Once done, mouse-right click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Collapse all folders'. (Fig 11)

Import dynamic penetrometers

Step 1 : Import penetrometers location

Mouse right-click on 'DPTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Import | from Excel file'. (Fig 12)

The dialog 'Elk - import penetrometers from Excel file' shows up, click on 'Browse' button (Fig 13).

A dialog shows up.
Select the file 'penetrometers.xls'. (Fig 14)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

The dialog 'Elk - import penetrometers from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 15).
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Mouse right-click on 'DPT A 1'.
A popup menu shows up. Click on 'Expand all folders'. (Fig 16)

Step 2 : Import penetrometers's point resistance

Mouse right-click on 'DPT A 1 | Data'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Import | point resistance | from Excel file'. (Fig 17)

The dialog 'Elk - import point resistance from Excel file' shows up, click on 'Browse' button (Fig 18).

A dialog shows up.
Select the file 'DPT_A_1_logs.xls'. (Fig 19)
Click on 'Open' button.
Click on 'Ok' button.

The dialog 'Elk - import point resistance from sheet - Select fields' shows up (Fig 20).
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Repeat step 2 for 'DPT A 2', 'DPT A 3' and 'DPT A 4' with respective files in order to import all point resistance logs.

Modify colors settings

In Elk menubar click on 'Perspectives | Switch to "Run"' (Fig 21).
By default Elk is located on 'Welcome' tab.
Mouse left-click on 'Process' tab.

Mouse right-click on 'Menard PMTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Settings'. (Fig 22)

A dialog called 'Elk - Settings - Menard PMTs' shows up.
Switch on 'Chart viewer display' tab. (Fig 23)
Set Em color to random, and click on 'Apply to all'.
Set Pl* color to random, and click on 'Apply to all'.
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Mouse right-click on 'DPTs'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Settings'. (Fig 24)

Switch in 'Chart viewer display' tab. (Fig 25)
Set point resistance color to random, and click on 'Apply to all'.
Click on the 'Ok' button.

Launch wizard

Expand 'Models' category.
Mouse right-click on '1D Lithologies'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Plugins hotspot | 1D Litho - Wizard'. (Fig 26)

A dialog called 'Elk - Shg 1D Lithology - page #1/5' shows up, displaying a welcome tab.
Mouse left-click on 'Next' button. Wizard page called '2/5 Input - Select Menard PMTs' is now selected (Fig 27).
Keep everything selected.
Mouse left-click on 'Next' button.

Mouse left-click on 'Ok' button.
Wizard enables 'Next' button.

Wizard page called '5/5 Output - Create layers' is now selected.
Mouse right-click in any lithology chart.
A popup menu shows up (Fig 31), mouse left-click on 'Pick layer's bottom marker'.

A dialog called 'Elk - New picked marker from lithology table' shows up. (Fig 32)
Select 'Grave argileuse' in 'Image' combo box. Mouse left-click on 'Ok' button.
Create several layer's bottom markers. Mean values are computed and displayed with dashed lines. (Fig 33)
Mouse left-click on 'Finish' button.

Display mean lithology

In 'Models' category :
Mouse right-click on '1d lithology 1'.
A popup menu shows up. Mouse left-click on 'Show in new 1D lithology viewer'. (Fig 34)

A viewer called '1D lithology 1 1D lithology viewer #1' shows up. (Fig 35)
The viewer has 4 charts from left to right :

  • Lithology,
  • Em (MPa),
  • Pl* (MPa)
  • Qd (MPa)
